Your safari begins as you are picked up from your Arusha lodge and journey to Tarangire National Park, carrying picnic lunches for the day. The park is a landscape of dramatic beauty, defined by ancient baobab trees and the life-sustaining Tarangire River, which attracts spectacular concentrations of wildlife, especially during the dry season. Your full-day game drive places you among the park’s famous elephant herds and offers chances to see lions, leopards resting in acacias, giraffes, buffalo, and a stunning array of birdlife.
After a day of exploration among these gentle giants and ancient trees, you’ll exit the park and travel a short distance to your first comfortable bush camp. You will spend the night at Africa Safari Manyara Escarpment Camp, a well-appointed mid-range tented camp where you can relax by the pool, enjoy dinner, and settle into the rhythm of safari life under the vast African sky.
After an early breakfast, you’ll depart for the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. The drive itself is an adventure, transitioning through varied landscapes as you journey toward the iconic golden grasslands. Upon entering the park, your wildlife viewing begins immediately. You’ll stop for lunch at a scenic spot before continuing your afternoon game drive in the Central Serengeti, searching for the great herds and the predators that follow them.
The Serengeti is famed for the Great Migration, but its resident wildlife ensures thrilling sightings year-round. You’ll arrive at your accommodation as the sun begins to set. Your home in the wilderness for the next two nights is Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, a comfortable mid-range tented camp situated right inside the Central Serengeti, offering you an authentic and immersive bush experience.
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the vast and breathtaking Serengeti ecosystem at your own pace. With your private guide and vehicle, you have the freedom to tailor the day to your interests. You may choose a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch, venturing far across the plains to track the movements of the great herds and their attendant predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
Alternatively, you can opt for a more relaxed pace with separate morning and afternoon drives, returning to camp for lunch and a midday rest. This flexibility allows for patient wildlife photography, birdwatching, or simply absorbing the profound scale and beauty of one of Earth’s last great wilderness areas. You’ll return for a second night at the Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, sharing stories of the day’s adventures.
After breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to the Serengeti and travel east to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Carrying picnic lunches, you will descend the steep walls into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. This natural amphitheater creates a unique, self-contained ecosystem often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” where an astonishing concentration of wildlife lives year-round.
Your game drive on the crater floor is a spectacular experience. You’ll have an excellent chance to spot the endangered black rhino, alongside large prides of lion, herds of elephant and buffalo, and thousands of flamingos on the soda lake. After a full day of exploration in this breathtaking setting, you’ll ascend the crater and return to the familiar comfort of the Country Lodge Karatu for your overnight stay.
Today offers a profound shift from wildlife to a living cultural heritage. After breakfast, you’ll drive to the shores of Lake Eyasi to spend the day with two of Tanzania’s most remarkable indigenous communities. First, you’ll meet the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last true hunter-gatherer societies on Earth. You’ll have the rare privilege of accompanying the men on a traditional hunt using bows and arrows, learning about their ancient techniques and unique click-based language.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit the neighboring Datoga tribe, skilled blacksmiths known for crafting tools and jewelry from recycled metals. You’ll witness their craftsmanship and learn about their pastoralist culture. After this immersive and humbling experience, you’ll take a walk along Lake Eyasi before returning to the Country Lodge Karatu for your final night, reflecting on a day that connected you with traditions spanning millennia.
On your final safari day, you’ll explore the compact and diverse Lake Manyara National Park. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is famous for its unique tree-climbing lions and large troops of baboons. Your morning game drive will also reveal elephants in the lush forest, giraffes, hippos in the lake, and over 400 species of birds, including seasonal flocks of flamingos.
Following your game drive and a picnic lunch, you’ll begin your journey back to Arusha. You’ll be dropped off in the city in the late afternoon, marking the end of your six-day adventure that beautifully wove together the wild wonders and ancient cultures of Northern Tanzania.
