Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be greeted by your Safari Under the Sky guide and begin the approximately 90-minute transfer to your lodge in Arusha. If the weather is clear, you’ll be rewarded with glimpses of the majestic snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro along the way. The drive offers a first look at local Tanzanian life as you pass villages and markets. After checking in, the remainder of the day is yours to relax, acclimatize, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of your lodge, ready to begin your adventure the following morning.
After breakfast, your exploration begins with a visit to the compact yet diverse Arusha National Park. A scenic drive brings you to this beautiful park, where your guide will find a perfect spot to admire the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park features the dramatic Ngurdoto Crater, serene Momella Lakes, and lush montane forest. Your game drive will search for buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and a rich variety of birdlife, with excellent opportunities to see troops of colobus and blue monkeys. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch by one of the lakes before continuing your exploration. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Arusha.
Today is dedicated to authentic cultural immersion. You will drive to a traditional Maasai Boma (homestead) to spend time with one of East Africa’s most iconic tribes. Participate in daily activities such as milking cattle or learning about traditional dress and customs. Following this profound experience, you’ll visit the vibrant, multi-ethnic village of Mto wa Mbu for a delicious lunch of local Tanzanian dishes, offering a chance to taste the country’s diverse flavors. The afternoon is a leisurely drive to your lodge, where you can reflect on the day’s rich cultural encounters.
This action-packed day begins with a drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will descend the steep walls into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for a spectacular morning game drive. This natural amphitheater is teeming with wildlife, including the rare black rhino, lions, elephants, and flamingos on Lake Magadi. After a picnic lunch, you’ll ascend the crater and journey towards the Serengeti. En route, you’ll stop to admire the panoramic views and perhaps climb a kopje (rocky outcrop) before entering the park and proceeding to your camp in the wilderness.
A full day awaits you in the world-renowned Serengeti. You may opt for a breathtaking hot-air balloon safari at dawn (extra cost). After breakfast, you and your guide will plan the day’s adventure, targeting areas known for specific wildlife—perhaps searching for leopards in the kopjes, cheetahs on the plains, or the massive herds of the Great Migration (season-dependent). You’ll return to camp for lunch and respite before heading out again for an afternoon game drive, concluding with a classic Serengeti sunset as you return for the night.
After a final bush breakfast, you will enjoy a last game drive as you transfer to the Seronera Airstrip within the Serengeti. Here, you will catch your scheduled flight to the spice island of Zanzibar. Upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ), you will be met and transferred to your beachfront hotel in the famous Nungwi area. The remainder of the day is free for you to unwind, take your first stroll along the white-sand beach, and dine at your leisure, marking the start of your beach holiday.
