Depart Arusha after breakfast and enter Lake Manyara for a gentle wildlife warm-up. Work shady forest tracks and lakeshore edges for elephants, blue monkeys, hippos, and prolific birdlife; scan fig branches for the park’s occasional tree-climbing lions. Your guide uses the cooler hours for activity and soft light, adding interpretive stops on habitats and behavior as you go. Arrive at your Karatu lodge by late afternoon to unwind in the gardens and review tomorrow’s early crater descent. Dinner is included and the evening is relaxed—an ideal reset before a big game-viewing day.
Leave at first light with a picnic to descend nearly 600m to the crater floor, a compact mosaic of grasslands, marshes, and soda lakes supporting year-round densities of herbivores and predators. Cruise quieter tracks for lions, large buffalo herds, and—with luck—black rhino, then pause for lunch at a scenic picnic spot beneath the crater walls. Your guide times routing to maximize hours on the floor and avoid traffic where possible.
Ascend mid-afternoon and return to your Karatu lodge to relax before dinner, swapping highlights from a concentrated big-game day and preparing for tomorrow’s baobab country.
After breakfast, head to Tarangire for a finale among towering baobabs and elephant families along the river. Work the river loops and open woodlands for zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and buffalo; watch raptors circling high and keep an eye on marsh edges as the day warms. The morning rhythm favors active sightings and soft light for photography, with your guide adapting to current movements and your interests.
After lunch, exit the park and continue to Arusha for drop-off aligned with your onward plans. We can add extra nights or arrange a Zanzibar beach finish if you’d like to extend your holiday.
Any trip cancellations must be sent in writing to the office that confirmed the reservation. Cancellations shall only be effective from the date of receipt of cancellation by the booking office. In case of a booking cancellation, the Company shall retain the full deposit.
