Your guide will collect you from your Arusha hotel at 8:00 am for the scenic drive to Tarangire National Park. As you enter this ancient landscape, you are greeted by the iconic silhouettes of thousand-year-old baobab trees standing sentinel over the golden savannah. Your full-day game drive follows the life-giving Tarangire River, where massive herds of elephants—the park’s famous residents—gather to drink and bathe. Keep your eyes on the acacia branches for a rare sighting of the legendary tree-climbing lions, and scan the grasslands for prowling leopards, towering giraffes, and the immense herds of buffalo and zebra that define this rich ecosystem.
After a day spent among these gentle giants and formidable predators, you’ll exit the park as the afternoon light turns golden. A short drive brings you to the tranquil highlands of Karatu. After breakfast, you’ll journey westward, ascending the Great Rift Valley escarpment and traversing the Ngorongoro Highlands towards the world-famous Serengeti. You’ll arrive in the Central Serengeti (Seronera region) in time for lunch, ready to plunge into an afternoon of exploration. The landscape here is a mosaic of short-grass plains, woodlands, and alkaline lakes, providing essential nutrients for the newborn calves. Your journey is a game drive in itself, with wildlife becoming increasingly concentrated as you approach Ndutu.
Upon arrival, you’ll immediately sense the energy of this phenomenal natural event. The plains are alive with the sights and sounds of newborns taking their first steps, while predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas patrol the edges of the herds. You’ll settle into your specialized accommodation for the next two nights: the Shudia Tented Camp. This mobile tented camp is strategically positioned inside the Serengeti to offer you front-row seats to the daily drama of life on the plains.
Awake immersed in one of nature’s greatest spectacles. You have a full day to explore the Ndutu region at a leisurely pace, following the movements of the great herds. Your guide will take you to key areas like the shores of Lake Ndutu, the hidden valleys, and marshlands, where wildlife congregates. This is your chance to witness the intense, real-life drama of predator-prey interactions, as well as the tender moments of nurturing between mothers and their newborn calves.
The flexibility of a full day allows for patient wildlife viewing, perfect photography light during the golden hours, and even a serene sundowner experience as the sun dips below the horizon. You return for a second night at the Shutudia Ndutu Camp, with the experience deepening your connection to this incredible ecosystem.
After a final breakfast surrounded by the Serengeti, you bid farewell to the migration and journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here, you descend 600 meters into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden.” The crater’s enclosed ecosystem creates an astonishing concentration of wildlife. Your game drive is a final quest for the Big Five, with an excellent chance to spot the endangered black rhino, alongside large prides of lion, herds of elephant, buffalo, and flocks of flamingos on the soda lake.
You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before making the ascent back to the rim in the early afternoon.
