Trip Itinerary

Day 1:

Tarangire

Your safari begins upon landing, as you are greeted by your Licaon Safaris guide at the airport. Carrying picnic lunches, you’ll journey directly to Tarangire National Park, bypassing Arusha to maximize your time in the wild. The park is a landscape of ancient baobab trees and seasonal swamps, famously centered around the life-giving Tarangire River. Your afternoon game drive immerses you in this rich ecosystem, where you’ll search for its massive elephant herds, watch for lions stalking prey, and gaze into the acacia canopies for the elusive leopard.

As the day draws to a close, you’ll exit the park and travel to your comfortable lodge in the nearby highlands. You will spend the night at Marera Valley Lodge, a welcoming mid-range property where you can relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and share your first safari stories. All meals and non-alcoholic drinks are included today, setting the tone for the days ahead.

Over approximately six to seven hours, the landscape dramatically transforms from fertile farmland into the vast, golden grasslands that define the Serengeti.

Upon entering the park, your game drive begins immediately. This is your first introduction to the iconic “endless plains,” where you might spot herds of zebra and wildebeest, towering giraffes, and perhaps predators resting in the shade. You’ll arrive at your accommodation as the sun begins to set. You’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to accompany the men on a traditional hunt using bows and arrows, learning about their ancient techniques, gathering practices, and unique click-based language—an experience that feels truly timeless.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the neighboring Datoga tribe, skilled blacksmiths who craft tools and jewelry from recycled metals. You’ll witness their craftsmanship and learn about their pastoralist way of life. After this immersive cultural journey, you’ll be transferred to your lodge for the evening.
