Your Tanzanian adventure begins as you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where your Licaon Safaris representative and guide will warmly welcome you. During the scenic transfer to Arusha, you’ll receive a comprehensive briefing about your upcoming safari. Upon arrival at your hotel, you’ll have time to rest and acclimate. Arusha is a vibrant, safe city known as the safari capital of Northern Tanzania.
If you arrive early, you can take advantage of the afternoon to explore the city. You might tour key areas, shop for local crafts at cultural markets, or simply relax. In the evening, the city offers gardens, restaurants, and music venues for those looking to enjoy their first night. You will spend the night at the Outpost Lodge, a comfortable mid-range property, ensuring you are well-rested and prepared for an early start to your safari the next morning.

After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up for the scenic 1.5-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is a landscape of ancient baobab trees, seasonal swamps, and savannah, centered around the life-giving Tarangire River. Your full-day game drive offers exceptional wildlife viewing, with the park being famous for hosting the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania—over 4,000 individuals—alongside giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and numerous antelope species.
You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated spot within the park, surrounded by nature. The game drive continues into the afternoon, offering more opportunities to spot lions and other predators. Around 4:00 PM, you’ll exit the park and take a short one-hour drive to the town of Karatu, nestled in the highlands near the Ngorongoro Crater.Â

Rise early for breakfast before the short 15–20 minute drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate. You’ll descend the steep, forested walls into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a natural amphitheater often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” teeming with an astonishing concentration of wildlife, including the Big Five and the rare black rhino.
Your morning game drive on the crater floor is a spectacular finale to your safari, exploring grasslands, swamps, and a soda lake filled with flamingos. After a picnic lunch surrounded by this breathtaking scenery, you’ll ascend the crater and begin your transfer. Wake up to the sound of the Indian Ocean and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a beach view. Today is dedicated to exploring Zanzibar’s historic and cultural heart: Stone Town. This labyrinthine old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Arabian, Indian, Persian, and European influences blend in its architecture and atmosphere. Your guide will lead you through its narrow streets to key sites like the Former Slave Market, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the bustling Darajani Market.
In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a fascinating spice tour at a local plantation. You’ll learn about and smell the island’s famous agricultural products, including cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. The day concludes with a visit to the lively Forodhani Gardens waterfront as the sun sets, a perfect spot to watch street food vendors and local life.
