Your Tanzanian adventure begins with a warm welcome upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Your Safari Under the Sky guide will greet you and assist with the approximately one-hour transfer to your hotel in Arusha. This initial drive serves as your introduction to the region. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to receive a brief tour overview either today or tomorrow before your flight. The remainder of the day is entirely at your leisure to relax at the hotel, recover from your travels, and prepare for the thrilling flight into the heart of the migration country the following morning.
After breakfast, you transfer to Arusha Airport for your scheduled domestic flight to the Kogatende airstrip, situated in the Northern Serengeti. This scenic flight offers a breathtaking aerial perspective of the landscape unfolding below. Upon landing, you will be met by your safari guide and vehicle, ready to begin your exploration. You will drive to your camp for check-in and lunch. In the afternoon, you embark on your first game drive in this renowned region, immediately searching for the massive herds of wildebeest and zebra that characterize the area, returning to camp as the sun sets over the Mara River region.
Today is entirely dedicated to one of the world’s most remarkable wildlife events. After an early start, your guide will take you to strategic points along the Mara River, where thousands of wildebeest often gather on the banks. Witnessing a crossing—where herds brave crocodile-infested waters—is a breathtaking spectacle of nature, dependent on the animals’ own unpredictable schedule. Your day will be spent in patient, thrilling anticipation, observing predator-prey interactions and the immense scale of the migration. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, fully immersed in this dynamic environment, continuing your search throughout the afternoon.
After breakfast, you depart the north and begin a scenic game drive south towards the Central Serengeti. This journey allows you to experience the changing landscapes of the ecosystem, from the riverine woodlands to the iconic grassy plains dotted with acacia trees and granite kopjes. You will arrive at your next camp in the central Seronera region in time for lunch and a short rest. The afternoon is devoted to a game drive in this wildlife-rich area, known for its year-round populations of big cats and diverse habitats, offering a different but equally captivating perspective of the Serengeti.
You’ll have an early start for the drive from the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descending 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking experience, revealing a self-contained world teeming with life. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its high density of wildlife, including the rare black rhino, lions, elephants, and flamingos on Lake Magadi. You will enjoy a full morning of game driving on the crater floor, followed by a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you ascend the crater rim and drive to your comfortable lodge in the Karatu highlands.
After a leisurely final breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Arusha. This scenic drive through the Tanzanian highlands and past local villages offers a final cultural glimpse of the country. Your guide is happy to stop for any last-minute questions or photo opportunities. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will stop for lunch at the New Safari Hotel and have time to relax. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward departure flight, marking the end of your incredible migration-focused safari.
