Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be greeted by your Safari Under the Sky guide and begin your journey directly to Tarangire National Park. This efficient start maximizes your time for adventure. After checking into the comfortable Tarangire Safari Lodge and enjoying lunch, you will embark on your first afternoon game drive. Tarangire is famed for its dense populations of elephants and its dramatic landscape dotted with centuries-old baobab trees. The Tarangire River acts as a magnet for wildlife, offering excellent viewing of buffalo, giraffe, and various antelope. You’ll return to the lodge as the sun sets over this beautiful park.
Today is a deep dive into Tanzanian culture. After an early breakfast, you will visit a traditional Maasai Boma to learn about the customs and daily life of one of East Africa’s most iconic tribes. Following this authentic encounter, you’ll explore the vibrant village of Mto wa Mbu on a guided walk through its lush plantations, interacting with locals from many different tribes. A hot local lunch provides a true taste of Tanzanian cuisine. In the afternoon, the focus shifts to wildlife as you proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive, searching for its famous tree-climbing lions and the pink haze of flamingos on the lake.
After breakfast, you begin the scenic drive towards the legendary Serengeti National Park. The route takes you through the verdant highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, offering chances to spot wildlife along the way. Upon entering the Serengeti, you’ll be greeted by the iconic endless plains that define this world-famous ecosystem. You will arrive at the Kubukubu Tented Lodge in time for lunch and some relaxation. In the mid-afternoon, you have the choice to embark on your first Serengeti game drive or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the camp, perhaps later sharing stories around the campfire.
A full day awaits to immerse yourself in the wonders of the Serengeti. You may opt for a breathtaking hot-air balloon safari at dawn, offering a unique aerial perspective. Your guide will then lead you on extensive game drives, exploring diverse habitats from open grasslands to the iconic granite kopjes, which serve as shelter for lions and leopards. After returning to the lodge for a hearty lunch, you will venture out again for an afternoon of wildlife viewing. As the day ends, you’ll enjoy a sundowner and a spectacular Serengeti sunset before retiring for the evening.
You’ll have an early start for the drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descending 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking experience. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a natural amphitheater hosting an astonishing concentration of animals, including the rare black rhino, and boasts Africa’s highest density of predators. You will enjoy a full morning of game driving on the crater floor, followed by a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll ascend the steep crater walls and drive back to the comfort of the Kitela Lodge in the highlands for a well-earned rest.
After a leisurely final breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Arusha. This scenic drive through the Tanzanian highlands is your last chance to soak in the beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will stop for lunch at a reputable local restaurant and have some time to relax and reflect on your journey. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward departure flight, marking the end of your memorable 6-day premium Tanzanian safari.
